Leapfrog RockIt Twist
Leapfrog Rocket Twist

Interactive toys and gadgets in this technological age are a surefire winner with the young generation, my children included. So when the RockIt Twist game pad from Leapfrog arrived they were chomping at the bit to break into it and start playing.

Coming with two game keys and matching surprise eggs containing cute animal accessories, the packaging itself appealed to my 7.5 and 4.5 year olds, who are both suckers for pretty much anything that comes inside of a plastic egg!

The fun little characters hint at the theme of the games triggered by their accompanying game packs, but this is where the assistance of a responsible adult comes in as you will need to set up a Leapfrog account on a parent computer and upload the games there too with your RockIt Twist game pad connected.

Connected devices

It’s a very simple and fairly quick process to download the program and activate the device and from there upload each game pack which the kids were intrigued to watch me navigate.

The game pad itself is so cool with all manner of dials and buttons and controls, which all work together to operate the action on screen as my two novice techies discovered and became quickly au fait with. Encouraged to ‘twist, turn, play, learn’ they both did exactly that, taking it in turns to get to grips with the game pad and the wealth of activities within. The games themselves are targeted at challenging kids’ knowledge of maths, their competency with problem solving and their creativity.

First each child created a unique profile and then began the exploration of the world of dinosaurs as they took turns using the dials and buttons to dig up fossils and bones to ultimately piece together different dinosaur skeletons. Another game saw them use their literacy skills to solve mysteries with Penelope Penguin Pet Detective. Noah loves turning the dials to create familiar three letter words from the scrambled lines of letter available and Denny loves digging up Dinosaur bones and learning about the creatures that used to roam the earth!

Whichever pet you’ve acquired via your game pack, in our case a dog and a dinosaur, each can be virtually nurtured at the pet station accessed on the RockIt Twist.

My two quite literally have not put their new toy down and I’m pretty impressed at their sharing skills, though it seems they are equally engrossed watching the other try out the different activities as they are getting involved themselves.
